Oman's Golden Residency: 10 years for your whole family
Put OMR 200,000 (about $520,000) to work in Oman, and your spouse, kids and parents get residence on the same approval.
Oman opened this route on September 1, 2025. It suits Americans whose money comes from capital they already hold rather than a salary or pension: you keep the investment in Oman for the term, and the residence renews as long as you do.

Golden Residency (10-Year Investor Residency)
A renewable 10-year residency for foreigners who invest at least OMR 200,000 (about $520,000) in Oman through property, a company, bonds, listed shares or a bank deposit. It covers first-degree family members with no cap on number or age, needs no local sponsor, and lets you own your business outright. It does not lead to Omani citizenship.
- Government cost
- $1,433
- Timeline
- 10 years, renewable while the investment is maintained
- Difficulty
- Hard
Key requirements
- Minimum investment of OMR 200,000 (about $520,000) through one of seven routes
- Qualifying routes: completed property in an Integrated Tourism Complex, an Omani company at least 1 year old, Government Development Bonds with 2+ years to maturity, Muscat Stock Exchange shares, or a 5-year fixed deposit at a licensed Omani bank

Where the OMR 200,000 can go
Tourism-complex property
Completed real estate in an Integrated Tourism Complex, such as Al Mouj Muscat or Jebel Sifah. It has to be finished, not off-plan.
An Omani company
A stake worth OMR 200,000 in a company that has been operating for at least a year.
Government bonds
Government Development Bonds with at least two years left to maturity.
Listed shares
OMR 200,000 in shares on the Muscat Stock Exchange.
A five-year deposit
OMR 200,000 fixed for at least five years at a licensed Omani bank.
Hiring or nomination
Own a firm with 50+ Omani staff and capital above OMR 200,000, or be nominated by a company set up under the Foreign Capital Investment Law.

Is it you?
Built for capital, not a paycheck
If your wealth sits in investments you can move, this route lets it keep earning while it holds your residence. If you'd need a job in Oman, it's the wrong tool.
- Bonds, shares and deposits all qualify, so the money isn't parked in one house.
- Plan to hold it the full 10 years, since renewal depends on keeping the investment.
- Moving for a job? That's the Employment Visa and Labour Permit.
- Own tourism-complex property below the threshold? The two-year property-owner visa costs OMR 50 (about $130), filed from outside Oman.
Here's the catch
This residency doesn't lead to a passport. Omani naturalization takes 15 years of continuous residence, Arabic, and giving up your other nationality, so your U.S. citizenship would have to go.
Oman's residence law also voids residence after six straight months abroad, eight scattered months in a year, or 18 months in three years. We found no exemption for golden residents, so confirm before you plan long stretches away.
The process
From first login to resident card
Everything runs online at omanresidence.gov.om. Migrate World, the program's operational partner, puts the timeline at three to six weeks.
Before you file
You must be 21 or older, with health insurance and a clean record. Bring a passport valid at least six months, a police clearance under six months old, and birth and marriage records certified and translated into Arabic.
Taxes once you live there
From January 2028, Oman taxes residents (more than 183 days a year) at 5% on worldwide income above OMR 42,000, about $109,000.
- Ministry of Commerce pre-approval
- Royal Oman Police background check
- Finish the investment within 60 days of police clearance
- Medical exam at an approved clinic, then your visa and resident ID

Oman Golden Residency questions
Can my adult children and parents be included?
Yes. Oman's Ministry of Commerce says first-degree family members can be included with no limit on age or number. One agency's checklist sets narrower rules for adult sons, so confirm your family's eligibility when you apply.
Can I buy any property in Oman to qualify?
No. The property route requires completed real estate inside an Integrated Tourism Complex, the zones where foreigners can own freehold. Once you hold the residency, you may buy one additional property outside those zones.
Can I visit Oman before applying?
Yes. U.S. citizens can enter Oman visa-free for up to 14 days with a confirmed hotel booking, health insurance and a return ticket, and can extend to one month for OMR 20. That's enough time to tour tourism-complex projects and meet banks.
How much does the Oman Golden Residency cost?
The investment itself is at least OMR 200,000, about $520,000. The 10-year visa fee is reported at OMR 551, about $1,433, as of 2026. Budget separately for health insurance, document translation and any advisor fees.
Does Oman's Golden Residency lead to citizenship?
No. It's a renewable 10-year residency. Omani naturalization is a separate process that requires 15 years of continuous residence, Arabic, and renouncing your other nationality, which means giving up U.S. citizenship.
Can Americans get Oman's Golden Residency?
Yes. It's open to foreign investors 21 and older who put at least OMR 200,000 (about $520,000) into a qualifying Omani investment, carry health insurance and have a clean criminal record. You apply online through Oman's official Golden Residency portal.
How long can I stay outside Oman on the Golden Residency?
Oman's general residence law voids residence after six continuous months abroad, eight non-continuous months in a year, or 18 months within three years. Oman hasn't published a separate rule for golden residents, so confirm with the program before planning long absences.
Will I pay income tax in Oman?
From January 1, 2028, Oman taxes residents who spend more than 183 days a year in the country at 5% on worldwide net income above OMR 42,000, about $109,000. Americans also keep filing U.S. returns while living abroad.
