Chris in Peru

Chris, a Michigan native, first moved to live internationally in 2008. Driven by his inspiration to learn about the world and his passion for new experiences, he moved to South Korea, where he spent five years as an educator. Since then, his journey has taken him to Egypt, China, Nepal, Rwanda, and Indonesia.

In July 2024, he and his partner, Rose, settled in Peru, making it their latest home. Chris has fallen in love with Peru, traveling extensively through the country's diverse mountains, deserts, rainforests, and beaches! Chris can provide recommendations and support for the easiest airport transit options (hint: it's not Uber), provide insights into the real estate markets (yes, Americans can own real estate, and many do), help with recommendations for things to bring with you and support you in finding the best areas to stay, eat (Lima is a foodies paradise), drink, and even connect you with local expat groups.

Peru is a hidden gem, offering Americans a generous 183-day tourist visa per calendar year, providing an opportunity to slow travel throughout the country. Beyond the extended stay, indefinite residency visas are available for those demonstrating a monthly income exceeding $1,000 USD. With his wealth of experience living frugally across diverse countries, Chris is the perfect guide to help you unlock the wonders of Peru and learn more to see if it might be a good fit as your future home.
