Colombia
Why Colombia?
Colombia offers many of the benefits you’ll find in Central and South America, including low cost of living, friendly people, affordable healthcare, and warm climate, but it also boasts a few that other countries don’t, like legalized marijuana and protections for LGBTQ+ folks. Like most countries in Latin America, speaking Spanish can greatly improve your quality of life, however there are endless opportunities to learn the language. Expats and digital nomads can choose between the Pacific vs. Caribbean coasts; the heart of the biggest cities vs. the most remote Amazon villages; lush mountaintops vs. sandy beaches. Colombia is no longer the world of Pablo Escobar and the ’80s drug trade, but some smaller safety concerns persist. Driving can be perilous, but the cities are more walkable than those in the U.S.
