Taiwan

Why Taiwan?
Safe and welcoming, Taiwan is a great choice for expats who aren't afraid of heat and humidity. Known for its convenience stores (more than 11,000!) and delectable cuisine, Taiwan is also affordable and beautiful. Chaotic roadways discourage expats from driving a car, but thankfully a robust public transportation system makes car-free life manageable. Digital nomads benefit from blazing-fast download speeds nationwide, while outdoorsy types can explore the 800-plus hiking trails around the island (check air quality before you venture out). A queer-friendly culture and a thriving vegetarian scene draw people from a range of cultural backgrounds.
Locals are kind, even if you don't speak Mandarin, but you may need to buckle down and learn it if you want to navigate outside Taipei. Familiar Western goods can also prove difficult or impossible to find, and the work visa program becomes challenging for those without a college degree. Still, Taipei is often ranked first in cities for expats, thanks to its quality of life and healthcare.
