Why Ghana?

Ghana's Tourism Authority has launched a campaign to welcome home Black Americans seeking an alternative to their experiences in the U.S. They make an appealing case: a cost of living in the bottom 25% of countries. Infrastructure, safety, and healthcare are all in the top 50%. Beautiful beaches and growing cities are also two big draws.

Outside of capital Accra, you can find gorgeous, luxury homes at price points under $100k (be sure to learn how that works in Ghana). Even if you struggle to find local work, you can live on a fraction of an American salary. Friendly, English-speaking people, high-quality international schools, and an easy visa process make Ghana an attractive option.

However, LGBTQ folks beware — Ghana is extremely homophobic. A new law could equal jail sentences for people charged with same-sex or transgender behaviors.
