Malta

Why Malta?
Sunny island living in the gorgeous Mediterranean Sea is the big appeal of moving to Malta, where 14% of residents are expats from other countries (mostly EU nations). Food, utilities, and housing are slightly below U.S. averages, a great deal considering the country’s top-ranked infrastructure, healthcare, and safety. Most people speak English, but the alternative is Maltese — a difficult combination of Arabic, Italian/Sicilian, and English. Digital nomads love enjoying the island’s best weather in spring, summer, and fall, dipping out before cool temperatures settle in (most homes don’t have central heat). Some expats bemoan the bureaucracy and long waits for services, while others suggest taking a page from kind and friendly locals and learning to go with the flow. For those who are ready to make the leap, Malta has a variety of visa and residency programs.
