Why Germany?

Germany’s emphasis on family and work-life balance makes it a popular home for American emigrants. A stable job economy and generous PTO (20 days per year, minimum!) serve to attract working families. The country’s high tax rate funds a top-tier social safety net that includes free healthcare, free college and grad school, and mostly free childcare. Germany’s central location makes traveling to other EU countries a breeze. And don’t forget the Autobahn! Adjusting to German culture takes some time, though. Ample red tape and stoic locals can make it feel like an uphill battle to settle in. Cultural norms like apartments with completely empty kitchens can be jarring, too. Of course, expats who invest the effort to integrate should find a welcoming new home in time. Guten tag!
