Why Andorra?

If you really want to escape the U.S., you might consider Andorra, a country 41% of Americans have never even heard of. Nestled in the Pyrenees Mountains between France and Spain, the tiny nation of 100k is known for unparalleled safety and world-class skiing (ski school is mandatory for first graders!). Although it’s a tax haven, the quality of healthcare and education and the cost of living don’t suffer for it — the healthcare system in particular has been named best in the world and life expectancy fluctuates within the top ten nations. Catalan is the official language, and you won’t find much English outside tourist spots, but you should be able to get by with Spanish or Portuguese (or to a lesser degree, French). The country’s economic driver is tourism, and most people focus on the gorgeous mountain views, with the occasional exception. Outdoorsy folks in general may be happiest here, with plenty of places to hike, bike, and ski.
